It is not necessary that whenever you perform the Istikhaarah, you will always get an immediate or direct answer from ALLAH through a dream, although itmayhappen at times! However, one needs to be patient in terms of receiving the response of Istikhaarah in any form. Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said, “The Du’aa (supplication) of everyone is granted as long as the person does not showhaste and does not say that hemade a supplicationbut itwas not accepted.”
