Istikhaarah www.UniversalAim.org 04 We have very limitedwisdom and deficient intellect. And just like the Holy Qur’aan affirms, “Indeed, ALLAH (alone) is the possessor of perfect (and complete) knowledge of all things.” (HolyQur’aan - 49:16) So, if you are not sure about a choice that you have, it’s very simple; seek ALLAH’s guidance. Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) has prescribed a clear way towards the solution. The solution is Istikhaarah . It is stated in the Holy Qur’aan, “… Perhaps you dislike a thing and it is good for you and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And ALLAH knows andyoudo not know.” (HolyQur’aan - 2:216) Salat al-Istikhaarah is a prayer for seeking counsel and guidance from ALLAH . You can pray to seek ALLAH ’s help and guidance for the right decisions, as ALLAH is All-Knowing, All- Hearing andonly ALLAH knows the best choice foryou. Questions like - Should I marry a certain person or not? Should I attend this university or the other one? Should I take up this domestic job offer or look in foreign countries? The list of such confusing questions is very long and the choice that we make is evenmore critical. Istikhaarah is a Sunnah. Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) used to teach his companions tomake Istikhaarah in all matters. Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said: ‘If anyone of you is deliberating about a decision he has to make, then let him pray two rak’ahs of nafil (non-obligatory) prayer, then say:
