Significance of fasting on Ashura: th (Peace be upon him) Prophet Muhammad said, “Fasting on the day of Aashura (10 of Muharram) is atonement (expiation/ kaffarah ) for the sins of the previous year.” Along with the fast of Aashura, it is recommended to fast on the ninth day of Muharram. The day of Aashura is also remembered for the brutal martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Husain (may ALLAH be pleased with him) in the year 61AH of Islamic calendar. He is the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) . The tragedy of Karbala upholds the esteem virtues of justice, truth, selflessness and sacrifice. ALLAH has bestowed Hazrat Imam Husain (may ALLAH be pleased with him) with immense significance.
