Ramadan Mubarak

A few of people believed due to lack of knowledge that people were asked to observe fast since they overate and were lazy, but the fact is that fasting is for piousness, it is for the overall betterment and upliftment of our physical, mental and spiritual health. In the verse above, it is stated that, “Fasting is prescribed for those before you”, which indicates the Ummah before Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him). It should be noted that, Torah has recorded Prophet Musa (Peace be upon Him) to have fasted. Similarly, Prophet Isa (Peace be upon Him) is recorded to have fasted in the Gospels. Also, Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) himself fasted from dawn to sunset so that people could followhim. ALLAH commands in the Holy Qur’aan, “O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, that you could be pious.” (2:183)
